Quilting Tip of the Day

It's been a little while since I've checked in. We've been on Spring Break and out of town. And honestly, I had a little mishap with the rotary cutter and my dining room table... sooooo, without further ado, here is my quilting tip of the day:

DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOUR CUTTING MAT IS IN PLACE BEFORE YOU CUT.

If you don't, tears will fall, and all quilty progress will quickly come to a halt. And if you do it twice (yes, I said twice) in one day, it will take a couple of weeks before you will be comfortable touching your rotary cutter again. Your hubby might raise his furry eyebrows at you next time he catches you weilding a rotary cutter. Your children will remind you every time they clean off the table that YOU were the one who scratched the precious table. The very table that, if they are seen doing something that has the most remote possibility of scratching the table, mom goes nuts. Yeah, it's bad. This is where showing yourself a little mercy and grace go a long way. Coffee and chocolate come next.

With that said, today I finally gained the courage to do a little bit of sewing. These are the Tube Quilting blocks I did for Tess in the Redbird Bee. I really like how these turned out! The tutorial was very straightforward, but I still had a little trouble. It could have been staying up 'til 4am. Sometimes, the brain fails to process directions well after such a night. (Using a rotary cutter after such a long night? Sounds dangerous. Well, who cares now that my table is marred!) My seam ripper also got a workout on this one. Really. They seemed so easy. Yes, it was the late night, indeed!

I will likely try this tutorial again... maybe to make chevrons? Oh, and thanks, Tess, for the template you included. I would have been lost without it!

  1. Oh, NOOO! Sorry about the table. I also tend to find myself working at 4 AM entirely too often. Sometimes, it's the only time available. Give yourself a break, enjoy that coffee and chocolate, and remember what a great Mom and sewist you are. We can all relate! :D

    And, your blocks look GREAT!
