It's finished! Here is a quick photo of my finished Starburst quilt. Yes, I'm still working on the pattern. I felt like I learned something new with each block I made- so glad I decided to make a bigger quilt with them. I'm working at adding all that information to the pattern, and, of course, my wonderful hubby is making it all pretty. I can honestly say I'm learning a lot in this pattern writing process. I'm enjoying it, but I'll be very glad when it's done! I'm ready to move on!

Redbird Bee- Hannah's Block

Redbird Bee- Hannah's Block

This is the block I made for Hannah in August for the Redbird Bee. Hannah provided neutral cottons and linens and asked for a block made of neutrals with one block of a print she provided. It was to be put together with vertical and horizontal lines only. This is what I came up with! The photo is awful. You really can't see the variation in color and texture in this block, but trust me, it looks simply wonderful and I can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Redbird Bee- July Block

I have been way behind on blogging. But I've been sewing away. I promise. As part of my sewing goal for next week, I plan to catch you all up on my recent projects... stay tuned! :)

This is the block I made for the July block in our Redbird Bee. This block is for Miss Nancy. I really love the way it turned out. She gave us strips of fabric to piece together any way we wanted for the center I chose a wonky log cabin style-ish block for my center. She gave everyone either red or white to put around the block as a border. The center is 8" square and the block measures 14.5" unfinished.

QuiltCon Challenge Block

QuiltCon Challenge Block {Design-my own}

QuiltCon is coming up in February, and although I don't get to go, I thought I'd at least participate. This is the block I did for the QuiltCon Block Challenge. I decided to try outlined triangles again. Flying Geese is my favorite traditional quilt block and I wanted to see if I could make it just a little more modern. I used the QuiltCon Kona Cotton fat quarter bundle. When the fabrics arrived in the mail I was totally inspired by the colors. They are so bright and vibrant. I knew that I wanted to do something that showed them off.

Last time I made outlined triangles was a total disaster, so I knew that I was going to have to find a new technique this time. I won't lie.  I had a lot of failures just trying to figure out the best way to piece this block. This was my third finished block. The first one was a total mess. Nothing lined up, seriously. I almost cried making it. The second one was much better, but the size was way off. I think I finally "mastered" the outlined triangle. The only thing I would change would be trimming more of the corners. That center vertical line was really tough to get to lay flat.

I'm gonna get this puppy in the mail today. I know I haven't blogged much the last couple of weeks, but I have been sewing- quite a lot, actually. School started this week. With no kids in the house, I plan on a lot more sewing time. I promise to blog it all!

siggy block swap

I just thought I'd let you take a peek at one more of the things I'm up to this month. I signed up for The Crafty Blackbird's Siggy Block Swap. I've got 65 of these blocks to make and mail out by August 1. I'm half way there- minus the sigs. :)
